Places to visit around Sotogrande
Sotogrande is 55 kilometres to the west of Marbella and 25 kilometres from Gibraltar. It is a great place for exploring Andalucia, as well as the Costa del Sol. There are lots of places within easy reach.
A day trip to Gibraltar is a great thing to do. We recommend taking the cable car to the top of the rock to see the monkeys. Seville is just over 200 kilometres away. The sherry capital of the world Jerez is also within easy reach. Here are some nice places to visit with our Sotogrande transfers;
Only a few minutes from the port of Sotogrande and is a great place to go for a meal. The whole road is full of restaurants and bars. Puro Tapas is a fusion tapas bar which buzzes with life all year round. You can sample unique dishes, and enjoy great wine here. If you can’t get a table, there are two other bars next door with the same popular concept. There are also some great Spanish and international restaurants in this gastronomic enclave, so we’d definitely recommend it for a night out. Being in the Cadiz province you have easy access to the stunning Costa del la Luz, with its wonderful beaches. Tarifa is a mecca for windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts, due to its reliable winds. It has a bohemian vibe, with cool beaches and bars full of surfers. Tarifa is also home to the ruins of the Roman city of Baelo Claudia – the most comprehensive remains of a Roman town in the whole Iberian Peninsula.
30 kilometres to the east of Sotogrande up in the hills is the stunning white village of Casares. It is one of the most picturesque of the “pueblo blancos”, huddled around a fortress on the top of a steep hill. Casares is charmingly traditional, and walking the streets seems to take you back in time. The surrounding countryside is stunning and it’s a great place for birdwatching. It has become a real centre for gastronomy in recent years with loads of great restaurants. Daredevils should try the zip line, which takes you 300 meters across the valley, for a birds’ eye view of the village and a real adrenaline boost.
