San Pedro de Alcantara lies just to the west of the glamorous Puerto Banus, and only 10 kilometres from Marbella. In recent years, it has been transformed into a stunning place for a holiday. It has a great mix of traditional Spanish charm, with modern facilities and lovely beaches. We’d definitely recommend a visit to San Pedro on your next holiday! Take the worry out of your holiday itinerary with our San Pedro transfers from Malaga and Gibraltar airports.
Why choose San Pedro?
You can think of San Pedro as Marbella’s quieter more traditional younger sister. Like Marbella, it has a charming Old Town, long seafront promenade and great beaches. It has great restaurants and bars too, but they are more laid back. Families love the playgrounds, parks and community feel. It is also slightly less international than Marbella, so you have the sense of being closer to “real Spain” on the Costa del Sol.
We like San Pedro so much, that we’ve chosen to locate our office here! Here are some of our favourite things to do and see.
Visit the Boulevard
The Boulevard is one of the newest additions to San Pedro and it has made a great impact. Stretching 55,000m2 through the centre of town, this is a paradise for families. There are six playgrounds, which are suitable for all ages. It’s a great place to ride your bike, roller skate or simply stroll. As well as playgrounds, there is an amazing bridge with curves and bends to replicate the sea. There are also a number of restaurants and cafes to relax and rest weary feet. The Boulevard often holds events, such as food fairs and music events. Families will probably find themselves there most days of their holiday!
Explore the Old Town
Up the hill from the Boulevard is San Pedro Old Town. The wide roads narrow to winding streets, so don’t take the car. There is a long stretch of restaurants and pavement cafes leading to the main church square. From this square, explore the narrow streets with little shops, bars and restaurants and plenty of charm.
Hit the Beach
San Pedro’s Blue Flag beaches are great, with lots of space and far fewer people than in nearby Puerto Banus and Marbella. All along the beachfront is a long promenade with palm trees. There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants along the promenade. It also plays hosts to several events, including the alternative festival Arte Sano in July. It’s possible to walk along the promenade all the way to Puerto Banus, which is a lovely way to explore. If that sounds a bit too much like hard work, then you know who to call for a transfer J
Visit the market
Every Thursday morning, there is an amazing street market up by the San Pedro Poligono where our office is. It starts at 9am and finishes around 2pm and is a shopper’s paradise. If you’re staying in a holiday rental in San Pedro, this is a great place to pick up fresh, locally grown fruit and veg. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg! San Pedro’s market has over 200 stalls selling almost everything you can think of. You’ll find clothes, jewellery, bags, furniture, herbs and spices, souvenirs and much more at great prices. Don’t be afraid to haggle for a real bargain.
