Why visit Marbella? Marbella is one of the most desirable destinations in the world. It is known and loved for its beaches, lifestyle, amazing restaurants, shopping and nightlife. Since the 1960s it has been a magnet for the jet set and people flock to live and holiday on its beautiful shores. Located just over 50 kilometres from the international Malaga Airport, a Marbella transfer is only a 45 minute ride. There are also so many great things to see and do within very easy reach.
We love Marbella, and thousands of tourists fall in love with it each year too. Whether you want to soak up the sun, dine in amazing restaurants or party the night away, Marbella has something for you. Here are some of our favourite things to do and see;
Explore the Old Town and get to know Marbella’s history
Marbella was founded in the 7th century BC by the Phoenicians. It has been conquered by the Romans, the Arabs and of course the Spanish! All these civilisations have left their mark. The beautiful Old Town owes a lot to the Arab era. Originally a bustling medina, the essential shape and structure and even parts of the Arab wall still remains. It is a charming maze of whitewashed houses, lovely squares, chapels and churches. At the centre is Orange Square, with its lovely chapel, the Town Hall and governor’s house. Radiating out from here, you can meander around the little lanes. You’ll discover tiny bars, restaurants, shops and galleries at every turn. A trip to Marbella Old Town is not to be missed, but don’t take the car. Take a transfer to Marbella and be dropped off by the Parque Alameda and head in on foot
Eat, drink and be merry
Marbella has amazing restaurants and a buzzing nightlife. There is a great gourmet market showcasing local produce and serving delicious fresh food. There are also lots of excellent tapas restaurants. If you fancy a tapas crawl, head down Avenida Miguel Cano, towards the sea. There are lots of different restaurants to choose from, all serving delicious food. Diners sit outside and there’s a wonderful atmosphere, especially in the summer.
For sundowners and dancing late into the night, the Puerto Deportivo is the place to go. This small marina is lined with bars and cafes, with great cocktails served in the sunshine. As the sun goes down the nightclubs and late night bars get going. There’s a brilliant atmosphere. Families with kids can enjoy it here too, as there’s a playground right on the beach. The Puerto Deportivo is perfect for everyone.
Enjoy some art and culture
Although Marbella is best known for its beaches and nightlife, there’s actually a lot of culture here too. We recommend;
- A visit to the Engraving Museum in the Old Town to see some great Spanish art.
- Admire the Dali sculptures on the Paseo del Mar as you head down to the sea.
- Popping into the Museo Ralli for some excellent Latin American art.
- Round off your cultural expedition with flamenco at the Tablao Ana Maria back in the Old Town. It ends very late, but our private Marbella transfers can pick you up and whisk you away to rest.
Marbella’s Hot Spots
Marbella is famous for its party hot spots and there are hundreds to choose from, but here are four of our favourites.
One of the most popular Marbella nightspots has to be La Sala. It has great food from breakfast to dinner, live music and great DJs and performers. Eat, drink, dance and enjoy the great atmosphere all year round. If you want to stay later, the fun continues downstairs in their nightclub Aqwa Mist into the early hours.
In the summer months Ocean Club is hard to beat. Its amazing pool, luxurious white sun loungers and chilled out tunes make it a great place to hang out during the day. Sip cocktails, soak up the sun and get ready to party as the day goes on and the music cranks up. A visit to Ocean Club is a Marbella experience you won’t forget.
Set around the Roman bridge in the heart of the Puente Romano is Plaza Village. This is a collection of bars, restaurants and a nightclub with a very cool vibe. The choice of cuisines and the central courtyard bar has something for everyone and you can dance the night away in Suite.
If you want to party, head down to Puerto Banus for the night. Restaurants and chic bars line the marina and really come to life in the evening. Just one street back from the marina is a whole street full of busy bars and nightclubs, which stay open late. There are also several enormous nightclubs around the Antonio Banderas square if you want to dance until dawn to some of the world’s best DJs.
